Each immunizing pharmacist in Florida must complete a unique three hour continuing education course on the safe and effective administration of vaccines and epinephrine as part of their biennial relicensure. The Florida Medical Association, which is a statewide professional association of physicians accredited education provider, offers this course for Florida Pharmacists to meet their continuing education requirements online.
Pharmacists are now authorized to administer pneumococcal, shingles and meningococcal vaccines. This brings the total number of allowable vaccines to four, including influenza, pneumococcal, shingles and meningococcal. Chapter 2012-60, Laws of Florida also grant pharmacists permission to administer emergency epinephrine autoinjection when medically necessary.
